HTC has brought on an adviser as it explores several paths for the struggling company’s future, according to Bloomberg. One idea under consideration spinning off or selling the Vive virtual reality business. Earlier this week, HTC lowered the price of its Vive headset by $200 in an attempt to make the immersive VR device accessible to more consumers.

Another option for HTC, which Bloomberg reports to be significantly less likely, is a sale of the entire company. Images of Sony's rumored Xperia XZ1 smartphone leaked today, and we're underwhelmed, to say the least. The device, which we're expecting to be announced on August 31st at IFA in Berlin, features two massive bezels. Generally, it looks like the same design we've seen with Xperia devices for years, which maybe wouldn't have mattered as much if nearly every major phone maker wasn't minimizing their bezels. The phone came out in May this year and was initially available unlocked. It features a physical keyboard, a relatively untouched version of Android Nougat, and a small 4.5-inch, 1620 x 1080 pixel touchscreen with a 3:2 aspect ratio. My colleague Dan Seifert liked it when he reviewed it, but was worried at the time about software updates. Although with AT&T now stocking the phone, it might be more likely to be updated over-the-air. The company says the KeyOne will cost $16.67 for 30 months, or $500, through AT&T Next.

Uber partners with Girls Who Code to fight for greater diversity in tech

Uber is announcing today a multi-year partnership with the nonprofit Girls Who Code. As part of the deal, Uber is donating $1.2 million to Girls Who Code over the next three years. The money will go towards growing more after school and immersion programs for young girls to learn tech at an earlier age and the organization estimates that 60,000 more girls will gain access to these programs as a result of the deal.

While this initiative and the timing reads as another attempt by Uber to try and get good press after a series of PR disasters, at least the money is going toward a good cause. YotaPhone 3 is coming to China in September with a new look

The double-sided YotaPhone is back. Baoli Yota has officially announced the YotaPhone 3, an Android handset with a 5.5-inch 1080p Samsung Super AMOLED display, and — of course — 5.2-inch E-ink display on the back of the phone. The phone goes on sale for 4,000 RMB (about $600) in mid-September at Chinese retailer JD.com.

Despite the dual screens, the YotaPhone 3 has a premium iPhone-ish look to it.
